The Queen Elizabeth Trophy and Shield competitions shot at Carshalton Rifle Club on Saturday 29th September were very closely fought, with just one point dividing the top four individual shooters.

The competitions are ‘Name your own Start’, designed to help level the playing field between experienced shooters and newcomers. It was good to see several newcomers and Juniors taking part – and doing so well.

The winner of the Queen Elizabeth Trophy was George McEwen (Woking Scouts Target Shooting Club), a Junior who is a newcomer to the sport and clearly one to watch. George’s score of 399 ex 400 beat fellow Juniors Nathan Russell (Caterham), JJ Culshaw (Woking Scouts TSC) and Colin Campbell-Salmon (Caterham) all of whom scored 398.

Winners of the Queen Elizabeth Shield team event were Woking Scouts TSC, scoring 1194 ex 1200, with Caterham second on 1179 and Bookham third on 1178.

The trophies will be awarded at the Surrey Dinner at Bisley on December 1st.

Many thanks to scorer Nigel Milner, officials Gail Rees, Braff Knight-Simpson and Brian Edmunds, to Carshalton Rifle Club for hosting the event and to Target Shooting School for sponsorship of targets and drinks.
